Day 42 - Friday 14 June - Rome to Florence

Friday 14 June

 We packed up and caught the metro one stop to Termini, where we got our fast rain to Florence, sitting one behind the other.  I think we are posh going first class, but am amazed at the number of families, some with little kids, in with us.

We found our apartment, about half was between the station and the cathedral, so that is very convenient.  We found the supermarket too, and had lunch when we got back with our bags full, then had a rest.

I had booked all our tickets ages ago, and our first scheduled appointment was to climb the Duomo dome at 17:00.  

We were going well until we reached to bottom of the dome, when we went through a door and there was the cathedral underneath us.  David found it very stressful going 180deg around the inside circumference of the dome, and chose not to go further.  So I staggered on, and made it to the top, 463 steps. 

 

 

I'd had so many rests that David thought I was lost.

We came home and had dinner, then went for a walk back to the station to try to get our tickets for Monday, but arrived at 20:59 just as the closed.  And the supermarket was closed too.
