Thursday 16 May, Day 13
We went for a walk first thing to see the Memorial to the
Asen Horsemen, (who ruled in C12) on another peninsula of the winding river. There is also the city art gallery, used for
concerts, which was the headquarters of the communist police. Apparently locals from the time have
testified that they would hear the screams of people being tortured at
night. We got lost on the way, of
course, but made it back without incident.
Then we finished packing, and got to the bus station for our 20 seater mini-bus (which had a tardis on the back for the carriage of luggage.) to Plovdiv. We drove first over the mountains, then through flatter farming country. There were lots of police beside the road, maybe waiting for bad drivers. We stopped twice along the way, and made it to Plovdiv at about 18:00.

We walked to our bnb, the long way along cobbled streets and
broken footpaths. It is a downstairs
granny flat.
We let ourselves in, got changed into our smart clothes, and walked a few blocks to a restaurant that I was told did a Bulgarian folk show at 21:00. There was a good mural on the wall (where else?).
The dinner was huge, and we finished in time for the show.
There was a guy singer, who was ok but his songs were rather long, and 6 dancers, who were pretty energetic. They co-opted some of the audience (some were groups from France and Spain), and everyone enjoyed the hour-long show. We videoed quite a bit.
