Wednesday 15 May, Day 12
First job this morning was to get a cab to the western bus
station to buy a ticket for tomorrow.
This was the only bus I couldn’t get online, and I was a little
concerned that we may have missed out.
Back in town, we joined a free walking tour with 4 Aussies and others,
and wandered around for 2hrs finding out about the 1st, 2nd
and 3rd Bulgarian kingdoms, and the times in between.
From the city lookout to the 4 horsemen (see tomorrow). And back the other way.
The craft makers' street, unusually empty.
We rested, but Palmi didn't.
The orthodox cathedral
We waited a while for a restaurant lunch, then slowly climbed to Tsarevets Fortress and church, on the top on the homonymous hill (I read that somewhere, and had to copy), and surrounded by some of the many twists and turns of the river.
This is the approximate location ↓ of our apartment.
The church was rebuilt during the communist era, and was never consecrated. Its murals are very modern, and not appealing to many.
They were advertising a lift up the bell
tower, but the door was locked.
By the time we got home we (especially I) were pooped, but
we went through the supermarket again, and rehung the washing (the abomination
on the deck had fallen over, probably early in the morning, and most things
were still damp.) We watched Berlin TV
in English before bed.
