Day 69 - Thursday 11 July - Toulouse to Paris

Thursday 11 July

Having negotiated the mess that is the forecourt of Matabiau station, we left at 8:49, in a nice 1st class carriage with dirty windows, so photographing was not good. Lots of farms, with wheat and fruit, towns, and lots of vegetation beside the track blocking the view.

We went via Bordeaux, and got to Montparnasse, Paris' southern station, at about 13:15, having observed our top speed as 318kph, but it may have gone higher.

We walked to the bnb, and were shown around by Elaine, who was going off to stay with friends for the weekend. We got organised, then went off to ........ climb some more steps. In 2008 we had come to Sacre Coeur, but the queue was so long, we didn't go into the church. So, now it's just up the street, so to speak, we had to do it.

The building was started in 1875, but not consecrated until 1919, and it looks very new compared with most of the others we have seen which are hundreds of years old. We walked around inside, then just had to do it ...

... climb the dome, a further 300 steps.

Doing the shopping meant hundreds of more steps - trying to find the things we need is always an adventure, but we made it back home.
